Thanks Pauline for sending these pictures and information in let us never forget the Blackcountry pubs

Here's a photo of the White Lion Inn on the corner of Green Lane and Hospital Street.  I couldn't find a photo of this pub at the Walsall Archives, so I sent them one, and thought you might like one too.

This pub has been demolished, along with all of the houses along that part of Green Lane, Walsall.  Hospital Street still has a lot of old houses along the right side of the road.  This pub was run by Thomas Marlow around the 1930s.  This is all I know really.  I was keen to get a photo because many of my ancestors were born in Green Lane, Walsall, and this was just connected to the family by more distant relations.  It's nice to be able to put a picture to the name of a pub.  I have got a book on Walsall Pubs, and it is mentioned, but there is no photo.

I also have another which my grandad supposed to have been a publican, but I'm not 100 percent sure that this one (the Crown and Cushion) is his pub.  He died in 1899 in Gospel Oak Road, Tipton and is listed as a publican.  At great lengths, I managed to get a photo of a picture in a frame.  It's not that brilliant, but its better than nothing.  I will attach it for you to see anyway.  The actual picture is hanging in the school next door to it.

Best wishes, Pauline Clifft
